the ICRC is funded through voluntary contributions from States Parties to the Geneva Conventions (governments), National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, supranational organizations (such as the European Commission) and other public and private sources.
It also intends to play a central role in raising awareness of humanitarian law and in clarifying, developing and strengthening this crucial body of legal texts in order to respond to the realities of modern warfare.
