L’sulfuric acid can be prepared in small quantities by burning elemental sulfur to produce sulfur dioxide SO2, which is then dissolved in hydrogen peroxide H2O2: SO2 + H2O2 → H2SO4.
It comprises three stages: – production of sulfur dioxide SO2, by combustion of sulphur, – oxidation of the latter into sulfur trioxide, SO3, using vanadium pentoxide (V2O5: the catalyst), – conversion of the trioxide of sulfur in sulfuric acid H2SO4, by reaction on theacid diluted.
